S - cripture: 1 John 5:1-5
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
O - bservation:
This passage talks about how we the believers of Jesus are the only ones who overcomes this world. How do we overcome it exactly? It is our faith and love in Jesus that makes us victorious and overcomes the world.
A - pplication:
If we believe that Jesus is Christ, we must love Him, love others, and obey His commands with joy. Keeping God’s commandments is an expression of our love for Him who has first loved us. God’s commands are not burdensome but light and easy. These proved necessary instructions of how to live our lives righteously. God gave them to us for our good and protection.
Sometimes we may complain that God’s commands are hard to follow but through His love and grace we are able to obey His commands with love and joy. We have a promise that as we believe that Jesus is Christ, love Him and obey His commands then we overcome the world.
P - rayer:
A: Heavenly Father, we praise and glorify You for You are sovereign and loving.
C: Forgive us for falling short of Your command to love.
T: Thank you Jesus that we through you we are overcomers.
S: Nurture our faith in Jesus the Christ your Son. Teach us to follow your commands with joy.
